Signs and symptoms of Black fungus
Signs and symptoms of Black fungus depends on the location in the body of the infection. The infection usually begins through the nose or mouth and then enters the central nervous system through the eyes.
If the fungal infection starts spreading through the nose or sinuses and reaches to the brain, then the symptoms and signs may include unilateral eye pain or headache, and accompanied by facial pain, numbness, loss of smell, fever, stuffy nose or can be running nose . Sometimes a person may have sinusitis, the face may appear swollen on one side, rapidly growing “dark sores” across the nose or in the upper part of the mouth, one eye may feel swollen and bulging, and vision may be blurred.
If it spread to the lungs the Fever, chest pain, cough, difficulty in breathing, coughing up blood. An abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and bleeding may occur when the gastrointestinal tract is involved. Affected skin may appear as a dusky red soft patch with a black center due to tissue death.
Ulcers, which are very painful can occur.
Thrombosis and death of surrounding tissue due to reduced blood supply can be resulted if the fungus Invaded the blood vessels. People who are already I’ll with another medical condition, can suffer Extensive (disseminated) mucormycosis, so it can be difficult to classify the symptoms related to mucormycosis. People with a disseminated infection in the brain may develop mental status changes or coma.
Classification of Black fungus in human body
Generally. According to the parts of the affected body, mucormycosis is classified into five main types. A sixth type has been described as mucormycosis of the kidney, or miscellaneous, that is mucormycosis at other sites, although less commonly affected.
Sinuses and Brain “Rhinocerebral”
This is most common to the People with poorly controlled diabetes or who have had a kidney transplant.
Lungs “pulmonary”
This is most common type of mucormycosis in people with cancer or who have had an organ transplant or a stem cell transplant.
Stomach and Intestine “gastrointestinal”
This is Most common among young premature and low birth weight infants, who have had antibiotics, surgery, or medications that lower the body’s ability to fight infection.
Skin “cutaneous”
This is most common to thr people having a burn, or other skin injury. And the people with leukaemia, poorly controlled diabetes, Graft-versus-host disease, HIV and intravenous drug use.
Widespread “disseminated”
This happens when the infection spreads to other organs via the blood.
